How much does a notary cost in New Hampshire?
Most "notary cost" pages are run by an online-notarization platform or a notary supplier — each answering with its own product. This one isn't. Here's what it actually costs in New Hampshire, all your options compared fairly — including the one where your bank does it for free.
The two prices, separated
1 · The notarial fee
State-capped. This is the official act — verifying you, witnessing the signature, applying the stamp. It's the same amount whether you drive to the notary or they drive to you.
2 · The travel / convenience fee
RSA 455:11 fixes only the per-act maximums ($10 standard, $25 RON); New Hampshire statute neither caps nor requires disclosure of a separately charged travel/mobile fee, so any travel charge is a private matter between notary and signer on top of the statutory act fee. It only applies when a notary comes to you — a bank or walk-in counter doesn't charge it.

New Hampshire specifics
Fee schedule: A New Hampshire notary may charge up to $10 for each notarial act (oath, witness, service, or certification) under RSA 455:11, and up to $25 per act for remote online notarizations performed for a remotely located individual under RSA 456-B:6-a.
Travel fees: RSA 455:11 fixes only the per-act maximums ($10 standard, $25 RON); New Hampshire statute neither caps nor requires disclosure of a separately charged travel/mobile fee, so any travel charge is a private matter between notary and signer on top of the statutory act fee.
The $10 per-act maximum is a ceiling, not a set price — many NH notaries charge less or waive fees; market rate for standard notarizations commonly runs $5–$15 per signature.
RON acts carry a higher statutory cap of $25 per act versus $10 for in-person acts.
No fee is allowed for administering and certifying oaths of office of town officers (RSA 455:11).
Fees for taking depositions follow the justice-of-the-peace schedule in RSA 517:19 rather than the flat $10.
New Hampshire commissions both notaries public and justices of the peace (JPs); JPs can also perform notarizations, so a signer may encounter either title.
For RON, the notary must be physically inside New Hampshire and must have pre-registered its technology vendor with the Secretary of State; the audiovisual recording is kept for at least 10 years.
Remote online notarization: RON · Live in-state — Remote online notarization is authorized AND operational. RSA 456-B:6-a permits notarial acts for remotely located individuals via real-time two-way audio-visual technology; the notary must be physically located in New Hampshire and must notify the Secretary of State of the communication-technology and identity-proofing vendors before performing RON. The A/V recording must be retained at least 10 years. RON became effective February 6, 2022. Notarial acts validly performed under another state's laws are recognized in NH under the Uniform Law on Notarial Acts (RSA chapter 456-B).
